FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Dear Friends of Silicon Couloir,

I’ll try and keep this intra-holiday note sweet and short.

As I detox from another wonderful – if too filling – Thanksgiving, my thoughts turn to all the reasons I have to be thankful.

  • I am thankful for my wonderful family and friends. They are the foundation upon which everything else is built;

  • I am thankful that I – and we – get to live in one of the most wonderous regions in the entire world, blessed with natural beauty, an abundance of flora and fauna, and a dynamic, thriving community of special people;

  • I am thankful that I lead a unique values-based organization focused on maintain a healthy, vibrant community through helping the private sector to “do well by doing good and do good by doing well”;

  • I am thankful beyond words to everyone involved with Silicon Couloir – staff, board members, volunteers, entrepreneurs - for the work they have done and continue to do in service to our community;

  • And I am thankful for all of you who follow what we do – it truly takes a village to help others grow and succeed, and in turn keep our community vibrant and strong.

We at Silicon Couloir wish you and yours a healthy and joyous 2023 holiday season, and we hope to see you at our Holiday gathering at the Center for the Arts on December 4.

Warmly,

       Gary Trauner, Silicon Couloir ED

VISIONARY VENTURES

PITCH DAY: WHAT HAPPENS BELOW THE WATERLINE

"For the general public, Pitch Day is an event that takes place on a specific day for several hours", explains Gary Trauner, SC Excutive Director. "Yet those of us at Silicon Couloir view Pitch Day as the tip of the iceberg. The public sees the 10% or so that’s above the waterline. Internally, our staff, the finalists and the volunteer coaches combine over several months to craft the 90% the public does not see. To continue the analogy, it’s the 90% of Pitch Day that is below the waterline that makes the publicly visible 10% a meaningful and quality community event."

"I thought it might be interesting in this column to provide readers with insight into the world of Pitch Day below the waterline."
