Silicon Couloir Welcomes New Executive Director

Silicon Couloir Welcomes New Executive Director

Following an extensive search, Silicon Couloir is proud to welcome Gary Trauner as the organization’s new Executive Director.  After six successful years of growth with part-time leadership, the Silicon Couloir board of directors decided to make the leap to a full-time director.

Trauner’s unique combination of entrepreneurial knowledge, executive-level experience, nonprofit service, and understanding of state policy and economics makes him an ideal leader for Silicon Couloir.  With over 30 years of entrepreneurial experience as a co-founder of AARBEN Consulting, which specializes in new and emerging companies, Trauner brings a deep understanding of the skills and support needed for start-up success.  An entrepreneur himself, Trauner co-founded, managed and sold, one of the largest regional providers of Internet connectivity services in the northern Rocky Mountain region.

In addition to serving on numerous boards, Trauner was the director of the Jackson Hole Lacrosse Club, the fasting growing youth sports organization in the state. Clearly, Trauner knows what it takes to navigate entrepreneurship and nonprofit companies.  Additionally, the relationships Trauner developed with Wyoming leaders while campaigning for one of Wyoming’s United States Senate seats will help ensure Silicon Couloir remains an active player in state entrepreneurial development.

Says board chair Bill Watkins,  “I am thrilled by the results of our search for a new Executive Director.  It was exciting to see the quantity and caliber of the applicants who applied from near and far.  Every candidate was packed with skills, experience and a heart for entrepreneurship. After a rigorous interview process, Gary Trauner rose to the top. Gary is a proven, talented and experienced professional who will take Silicon Couloir to the next level.”

Interim Executive Director and board member Alex Muromcew echoed these sentiments:  “I will speak for the board in saying that we were truly heartened by the quality of the applicants for the ED role at Silicon Couloir. We are very excited to have Gary on board.  2018 was a milestone year for Silicon Couloir with the launching of the TEAMS mentoring program and the acquisition of Spark (soon to be rebranded as The Cowork Space).  We are very excited about the outlook for Silicon Couloir in coming years.”

Says Trauner, “The future of Jackson Hole and the surrounding region is linked to our quality of life and our ability to maintain a diverse and dynamic economy that fits with our natural surroundings and community's values. The entrepreneurial spirit is strong here, and I am a firm believer that companies can do well by doing good, and do good by doing well.  Silicon Couloir is perfectly positioned to foster the entrepreneurial spirit through education, training and helping businesses to thrive in the context of our special region.”

Trauner follows Jennifer Ford’s tenure as Executive Director. Ford oversaw tremendous growth of the organization and plans to continue on her own path as an entrepreneur with her business, Frederick Mountain Group.
