Why Did BELAY Want To Sponsor Silicon Couloir’s Pitch Day?

To the uninitiated, Silicon Couloir’s annual Pitch Day is kind of a big deal. Like, an incredibly awesome, can’t-miss-it event wherein members of the regional entrepreneurial ecosystem are empowered and inspired to pitch – get it now? –  their business ideas to a panel of experienced investors and a general audience of over 200 people.

The event on August 9 aims to support ‘ … the need for local start-up and early-stage entrepreneurs to take their ideas to the next level, and gain valuable experience from the effort.’

Think of it as Shark Tank but in the warm, loving, supporting trust-tree arms of members of your very own community who actually want to see you succeed and, what’s more, they actually want to help, too.

Ready to feel extra warm-and-fuzzy? The event boasts that ‘When we help one another, our community becomes more connected and stronger.’

So it should come as no surprise that BELAY’s very own founders Bryan and Shannon Miles have chosen to sponsor the event since their company mission and values align ever-so-perfectly with Silicon Couloir’s.

Recently, we had a chance to sit down with BELAY’s fearless leaders to find out a little more about why their sponsorship of Pitch Day was such a no-brainer.

So … Georgia to Jackson, Wyoming. How did that come to be?

Shannon: Bryan first visited Jackson in 2009, and he instantly fell in love with the area. He was there for a backpacking trip on the Teton Crest Trail and in the Wind River Mountains. Then, in 2010 he led a business retreat, hosted by the company he worked for. We had no idea, at the time, what a catalytic trip that would be.

How so?

Shannon: He met someone in the community who ended up becoming a friend and mentor. He encouraged us to leave our corporate jobs and start our business that same year.

That’s a pretty scary leap to make on the advice of a friend. What was your biggest motivation?

Bryan: Autonomy is one of the biggest reasons we wanted our own business. So, seven months after starting BELAY, we took a month-long vacation in Jackson. It was magical. It was during this time that we really started exploring the community. We had time to pretend like we lived there – and didn’t just hit the tourist spots. We started to meet people and realized just how connected everyone was.

Shannon: And several years later, through a client and dear friend, Bill Watkins, we connected with Silicon Couloir. We knew immediately that we wanted to get involved because we believe in the mission.

How does their mission align with BELAY’s?

Bryan: We, both personally and professionally, believe in supporting those around us in our community, and our vision is to help others reach their vision. And Silicon Couloir promotes a diverse economy and healthy environment. Since joining, we’ve met so many amazing, talented, and genuine people who are board members or trustees who steward this dream so well.

Shannon: At BELAY, we source dedicated virtual assistants, bookkeepers and webmasters to help our clients climb higher. We have the opportunity to serve the most amazing clients who are making a big impact in our world. And many of those clients are in Jackson, serving to deepen our roots in the community.

Bryan: And we love hearing stories of the impact we’re making in people’s lives!

What are you most looking forward to on August 9?

Shannon: We cannot wait to see the innovation, entrepreneurship and sheer grit the presenting companies will bring. Silicon Couloir is making a huge impact on Jackson – and beyond.

Bryan: We are so proud to sponsor Pitch Day 2018 and are grateful beyond measure that we have yet another opportunity to help our clients climb higher.

Silicon Couloir’s Pitch Day is August 9, 2018, from 4 – 7 p.m. at the Center for the Arts.
